The World Campus Virtual Career Development and Internship Program gives students the opportunity to gain practical experience in their field of study. Unlike traditional internships that require students to work at a physical location, virtual internships allow students to work with companies at a distance using similar technologies that a teleworker would use.
You or your organization can partner with Penn State World Campus to provide virtual internship opportunities to online, adult learners. We are looking for project-based internships that can enhance students’ skill sets and produce meaningful outcomes for the student and your organization.
Benefit Your Organization
World Campus virtual internships are a great way to expand your organization’s talent network. Most World Campus students are adult learners who have extensive professional experience and are interested in enhancing their careers. Online learners are also self-motivated, adaptable, and technologically agile as many are balancing their professional work with their studies.
How Virtual Internships Work
Virtual internships are 16 weeks long and held during the spring, summer, and fall semesters, which follow the Penn State academic calendar.
Interns will earn credits toward their degree upon completing their virtual internship. The number of hours that interns work is based on each student’s academic major and the number of credits he or she is learning through the internship. Interns typically work between 10 and 20 hours per week.
