Third Annual Roar Where You Are Scavenger Hunt

Penn State World Campus Alumni Society volunteers invite all Penn State alumni and World Campus students to participate in a three-day scavenger hunt! You can participate in this family-friendly, on-your-schedule, roaring fun activity wherever you live. Activities can be completed in your neighborhood and throughout your travels the weekend before Penn State Alumni Association’s (PSAA) We Are Weekend festivities! Bring your adventurous self and play to win Penn State swag! Top winners from each category receive a very special miniature lion shrine made by Penn State students.

Scavenger Hunt

When: June 18 (following the kick-off meeting) through June 21

Join the Scavenger Hunt Opening Event on Zoom, June 18 at 8:00 p.m. (ET)

You do not need to be registered to participate in the scavenger hunt, and you can participate from anywhere!

If you registered in time (by June 3) to receive the postcard in the mail, be sure to use it in your selfie photos. If you did not register in time to receive a postcard or live internationally, print this pdf (p. 1) to include in your pictures.

We encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, but be lawful and safe while having fun!

If you have not joined our “Penn State World Campus Alumni” Facebook group, now is a great time to do so. You need not be an alum of World Campus to join.

There are three categories for competition:

Individual — Just you and your postcard. One individual executes the challenges, and friends and family may be in the pictures.
Co-located Team — Up to six friends and family in the same location may work together to execute as many challenges as possible with one submission per challenge, and all team members should appear in at least one picture.
Distributed Team — Up to six friends and family around the globe may individually execute as many challenges as possible, and team points will be counted cumulatively. So, yes, there is an advantage to making sure that you have six on a team!

Send your completed challenges to alumni@worldcampus.psu.edu
Subject line: Your Name
If sending a single completed challenge, include the challenge number in subject
If sending all completed challenges in one email, name each picture with the challenge number

Contestants may also enter the contest by mail. Print your completed challenges and mark each one with the corresponding challenge number. Include your team or individual name on your pages and send to: Marcia Kimler, Penn State World Campus, Development and Alumni Relations, 100 Innovation Blvd. Suite 222, University Park, PA 16802. Mailed entries must be postmarked by Monday, June 22, 2026.

Note: Photos submitted by email or mail will not be published and will only be used as proof of participation. Winners will be officially notified on Tuesday, June 30.

Points are tabulated by team/individual name.

Challenge Types for 2026

Activity (2–7 points) — Participate in event opening and closing Zooms or banter during game play in a variety of ways.
Music (5–7 points) — Send us a YouTube link featuring music. Official Penn State songs (e.g., “Alma Mater,” “Fight Song,” “Hail to the Lion”) do not count. Please be mindful and keep the lyrics clean.
Pay It Forward (15 points) — An easy way to give back during the hunt.
Photo (5–7 points) — Send us a selfie, groupie, and scenery with or without your Scavenger Hunt postcard.
Video (10 points) — Lights, Camera, Action!
National Days of Celebration: Choose Your Adventure (2–12 points) — Post a video (10 points) or a photo (5 points) relevant to the day we choose to celebrate. Earn 2 bonus points for posting your video or photo on that actual “National Day.”

First-place winners in each category will receive the smallest Nittany Lion statue we have ever seen, thanks to Penn State students at The Learning Factory. It will be, in fact, so small (1 inch tall) that you will be able to proudly display it anywhere or take it with you to “Roar” anywhere and everywhere.

Second- and third-place winners in each category will receive a swag pack.

Closing Celebration

Join the online party to share stories, learn the preliminary winners, and see some of the most outrageously fun, unique, or artistic submissions! A special thank you goes to the World Campus Alumni Society’s Outreach Committee for engaging the entire Penn State alumni family in this fun way! Participants need not be present to win. Join the closing celebration on Zoom.
