Charles E. and Carol E. Snyder World Campus Alumni Society Open Doors Scholarship in the World Campus

Carol and Charles (Chuck) Snyder created the Charles E. and Carol E. Snyder World Campus Alumni Society Open Doors Scholarship in 2017 as a focus for alumni and friends to support World Campus students with financial need. As proud Penn State alumni, Chuck, who has since passed, and Carol were both passionate about helping others share the Penn State experience. As a cofounder of the Penn State World Campus Alumni Society, Carol also very much wanted to recognize the important work of the Society in promoting alumni success from the moment of graduation.

“I didn’t grow up in a very rich family, and we’ve been fortunate. Here was a very clear opportunity to benefit those in need.” — Charles E. Snyder, 1960 Penn State graduate, business administration

“If you’ve got somebody who is working, has children, is maybe a single parent, the World Campus really is the answer to them getting ahead. We want them to be able to come here.” — Carol E. Snyder, 2012 Penn State World Campus graduate, organizational leadership

The Charles E. and Carol E. Snyder World Campus Alumni Society Open Doors Scholarship is one of 12 endowments created by generous and visionary donors for students in the World Campus Smart Track to Success program, which provides scholarship support, mentoring, and instruction covering technological literacy, financial management, and self-advocacy to undergraduate students in their first year of online study. Smart Track to Success has a positive impact on participants in terms of retention, course completion, and grade-point average.

Thanks to the generosity of the World Campus alumni community, the reach of the Snyder World Campus Alumni Society Open Doors Scholarship continues to expand.

Make a symbolic gift to the scholarship today and empower World Campus students to excel during the critical first year of online study at Penn State.

“Our goal is to ensure that first-year students have everything they need to thrive all the way to graduation. The Smart Track to Success program helps us to achieve it.” — Dawn Coder, Assistant Vice Provost, Chaiken Center for Student Success, Penn State World Campus
